# Add email recipients to custom emails

Builders can send [custom emails](/v1/docs/create-custom-emails) to app users and people who aren't Quickbase users. This article explains the options and setup.

## Add email recipients

Send custom emails to:

- Yourself
- Individual users
- Roles
- Groups
- Users in specific fields
- Users @mentioned in rich text fields
  - This option is available if you have [enabled mentions](/v1/docs/rich-text-field-properties) in rich text field properties

Add up to 20 recipients to the **To** field in the email composer.

## Include typed-in email addresses

In addition to the recipient options mentioned above, you may want to type in email addresses.

These email addresses most likely belong to people who are not Quickbase users.

> Before you can add typed-in email addresses, realm admins must contact [**Quickbase Support**](https://www.quickbase.com/support) to turn on the open email property for your realm.

To add typed-in email addresses:

1. Select the **Ignore recipient permissions** [Permissions setting](/v1/docs/permission-checks-for-custom-emails).
2. Type in the email address.
3. Select **Add "email address"**in the drop-down window, or press Enter on the keyboard.

## BCC/CC recipients

> *Access to this feature can change based on your Quickbase plan. Learn more about feature availability and plans in*[*Quickbase capabilities*](/v1/docs/quickbase-capabilities)*.*

Account admins turn on the ability to BCC/CC custom emails.

To allow BCC/CC, go to the **Policies** page in the Admin Console. In the **Security Policies** section, turn on **Allow CC/BCC of custom emails**.

You can only BCC/CC typed-in email addresses or individual users.

Quickbase does not check permissions for BCC/CC recipients. Instead, it applies the permissions of the recipients in the **To** field to BCC/CC recipients. Learn more about [permission checks for custom emails](/v1/docs/permission-checks-for-custom-emails).
