# Change the ownership of a single record

When you create a record, Quickbase recognizes you as the record's owner. If responsibility for that record needs to change, however, update it to show another user as the owner of that record.

> To transfer ownership of a record, you must have administrative rights to the table containing the record.

To change the owner of a record:

1. Open a [report](/v1/docs/using-reports-and-charts) that contains the records whose ownership you want to change.
2. Select the Edit (pencil) icon next to the record that you want to modify.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click **Change** next to the name of the current record owner.

The Select a User page opens in a new window.
4. Select the user that you want to make the new record owner, then click **Done**.

The new owner name displays above the record's "Created Date."
5. Click **Save** to implement the change.
