# Change the properties of a field from a form

You can control a field's appearance and behavior by editing its properties. Depending on what type of field you're editing, Quickbase offers different options.

In a hurry? Take a shortcut to the Field Properties screen. From within any table report or form, right-click the name of a field and select **Field settings**. Quickbase opens the field's properties page, where you can make changes.

To edit a field's properties:

1. Select the table name in the sidebar of your app.
2. Select **Settings** in the page bar, then select **Fields** on the Settings page.
3. Select the field name to access its properties.
4. Select the name of the field that you want to modify. If you have lots of fields, you may need to scroll down to find it, or [filter or sort the list](/v1/docs/filter-and-sort-the-fields-list).
5. Make the necessary changes, and then select **Save**.

Tip: For information about a particular field property, select **Help** in the global bar, and select the **About Field Types** link. In the help file, select **Field type** to see help on the properties for that field type.
