# Configure a step in Pipelines Designer

Here's the streamlined process for setting up pipeline steps. We've eliminated the draggable components and concentrated the experience within the step container. Now, you can use the enhanced search box to quickly find your desired step from all available channels.

Additionally, we've introduced a user-friendly "pills" design for selecting fields. Check it out:

## Configure a step with the new style

1. In the **Add a step** box, choose the search box to locate the desired step. You can also scroll down and navigate through the list of available channels. Next, select the channel. In this example, we use the Quickbase channel. ![Pipelines Designer Add a step panel showing the search box and Quickbase channel option](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18515868613012.png)
2. Once you've chosen the channel, you can navigate across the tabs for different step types or scroll them all. ![Quickbase channel panel showing tabs for different step types](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18515868625428.png)
3. Once you've picked a step type, you'll see the step details pop up if you are connected to this channel. You can select the app and the table in the dropdown:

4. With the table selection, you can now find and select all the fields inside that table to interact with its data later in your pipeline. ![Step configuration panel showing pills-style field selection from a Quickbase table](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18515929969556.png)
5. You can use the code icon to turn the input field into a code editor for more advanced interactions using expressions. ![Code icon toggle activating the Jinja expression editor in a step input field](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18516313620116.png)
6. Use filters to limit the results returned in a step for more precise results. ![Filter configuration panel for limiting records returned in a pipeline step](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18516313624852.png)
7. If you need to refer to a previous step in the pipeline in order to use its data, you can see in the dropdown the exact order in which your steps appear in the pipeline. ![Step dropdown showing the ordered list of previous pipeline steps](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18516380999188.png)
8. Select the step in the dropdown and you will see the fields and the data. ![Step configuration panel showing fields and sample data from a previous pipeline step](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/18516431185044.png)
