# Create custom emails

Quickbase offers several different types of [automatic emails](/v1/docs/automatic-emails-in-quickbase), such as custom emails, notifications, subscriptions, and reminders.

Custom emails allow you to:

- Combine capabilities from notifications and subscriptions
- Use pre-built elements to simplify customization
- Fine-tune when emails are sent
- Automatically handle the difference between one record being changed and many records being changed, without writing two different emails

## To create a custom email

1. Navigate to the table that contains the data you want to notify users about.
2. Go to that table's settings by selecting **Settings**from the page bar (or select the three-dot more menu from the sidebar).
3. Select **Emails**. You'll see any existing emails that are part of that table.
4. Select **New Email** in the page bar.
5. Choose **Custom email**.

## Set up your custom email

1. Choose a name for the email. This name appears in your list of emails.
2. (Optional) Add a description
3. Choose when to send the email:
  - [Send a custom email when records are added, modified, or deleted](/v1/docs/send-custom-emails-when-records-are-added-modified-or-deleted)
  - [Send custom emails on a recurring schedule](/v1/docs/send-custom-emails-on-a-recurring-schedule)
4. [Add email recipients to custom emails](/v1/docs/add-email-recipients-to-custom-emails)
