# Grid reports overview

Grid reports are the latest version of table reports. They offer a spreadsheet-like experience, but with the power of a Quickbase app.

Use grid reports as standalone reports or embedded in a dashboard or form. They are not compatible with legacy dashboards or legacy forms, however.

> **Note:** Grid reports are the exclusive report version supported in Quickbase. [Legacy table report versions](/v1/docs/quickbase-feature-retirements) receive limited support for critical security issues and bug fixes.

## Key capabilities

Grid reports allow you to edit records inline, without having to leave the context of your report. They also offer more powerful filtering and more control over the layout.

Key features of grid reports include:

- [Inline editing](/v1/docs/edit-cells-in-grid-reports) data directly on your report
- [Filtering data](/v1/docs/sort-filter-and-manage-columns-in-grid-reports) through conditions and pick lists
- [Hiding, reordering, and grouping columns](/v1/docs/manage-columns)
- [Adjusting column widths, row height, and line spacing](/v1/docs/adjust-column-widths-row-height-and-spacing-in-grid-reports)

Grid reports also come with a significant performance boost compared to legacy table report versions.

## Get started using grid reports

All newly created apps use grid reports by default.

If you have an existing app using legacy table reports, you can [turn on grid reports](/v1/docs/get-started-using-grid-reports) by going to **App settings** > **App properties** > **Advanced settings**. To ensure a smooth transition when you make the switch, learn about best practices for [preparing your app to use grid reports](/v1/docs/get-started-with-grid-reports).
