# Import users

If you have a long list of users who need to access your application, you don't need to enter each person individually. Quickbase lets you share with many users at once through the **Import Users** feature. You can import a maximum of 400 users at one time (10 users for a trial user).

Import users by either:

- **Pasting a list of addresses.** You can type or paste in a group of email addresses.
- **Importing addresses from a file.** You can import email addresses from a .csv, .txt, or Microsoft Excel 2007 or later (.xlsx) file. The file should contain only a list of email addresses.

## To import users

1. Choose **Users** from the sidebar, then select the arrow on the **Share app with new user**button and choose **Import Users**.
2. Add users by completing either of the following tasks:
  - **Paste a list of addresses**in the text entry area. Separate these addresses with a semi-colon, comma or return.

For example, you could copy and paste a long list of addresses from the **To:** field in one of your email messages. If any of these addresses show up in their extended format (like **John Doe <jdoe@example.com>**) don't worry about it. Quickbase parses the list of addresses and delivers your invitation.

> [!NOTE]
> Note: If quotes appear in the extended format (for example, "John Doe" ), delete them before selecting **Next**. Otherwise, Quickbase can't import the address and you receive an error message.
  - **Import addresses** from a .csv, .txt, or .xlsx file.

Select the **Import from a File** button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Browse to and select the file containing your addresses and select **OK**.
3. Choose a role to assign the users to.
4. Select **Next**.

Quickbase displays a table listing all the users in your list. If any users have existing Quickbase accounts, their user names also appear. Users that you add do NOT need existing Quickbase accounts.
5. Use one of the following options to invite users to share your application:
  - If the list contains all the correct names, select **Confirm**.
  - If you want to generate an invitation email to all users, even those with an existing Quickbase account, select **Confirm and Invite**.

Existing users also receive an alert on their My Apps page.
  - If the list contains a mistake, select **Start Over**.

Quickbase returns to the previous page where you can make changes to your list.

> [!NOTE]
> Note: When your application has lots of users, you may want to organize them in [groups](/v1/docs/what-is-a-group) to make your job easier. For instance, if you're adding a lot of users at once, you could [create a group](/v1/docs/create-new-groups), [add users to it](/v1/docs/add-a-member-to-a-group) and then share your application with that group. After that, use groups to determine who can see what information in your application by assigning a ![Not available on the Quickbase Essential plan](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/28628687557908.png)[role](/v1/docs/working-with-roles) to each group.
