# Manage FastField access and permissions

This article explains how permissions in FastField relate and map to permissions in Quickbase.

> [!WARNING]
> Important
>
> This functionality is only possible when [Quickbase and FastField accounts are linked](/v1/docs/link-your-quickbase-and-fastfield-accounts).

## How to grant FastField access to a Quickbase user

Grant FastField access to a Quickbase user either:

- In Quickbase (in the Admin Console)
- In FastField (on the My Users page)

### In Quickbase

In the Quickbase Admin Console on the Permissions page, select who can access FastField from Quickbase. Like other permissions in Quickbase you can either allow all users with permission to create apps or select specific users.

When someone has permission to FastField, they have access to buttons on the My Apps page and the Forms page to open FastField.

Users who are granted FastField access from Quickbase have one of three roles by default:

| **Quickbase role** | **FastField default role** | **FastField permissions** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Account or realm admin | Administrator | - Create and edit users - Manage account settings |
| Any role with permission to create apps but not an admin | Builder | - Create forms - Update, download, and delete lists |
| All other roles | Collector | - Fill out and submit forms - Access libraries dispatched to them |

To give permission to a specific user:

1. In Quickbase, open the Admin Console and go to Permissions.
2. Under **Permitted users and groups**, add the user. This adds them to the table at the end of the page.
3. Turn on the **FastField access** toggle. This gives them permission to see the buttons and access FastField.

Permitted users can then access FastField different ways:

- Select **FastField** from the main navigation menu.
- Select **Open FastField** on the My Apps page in Quickbase.
- Select **Log in with Quickbase** when logging in to the FastField mobile app.

### In FastField

1. In FastField, go to Team > My Users and select **+ New User**.
2. On the General tab, enter the user's Quickbase email address, First Name, and Last Name. Set the **Enabled** toggle to ON.
3. Go to the Roles tab and toggle on the roles to assign to the user. You can also assign the user to a Form Library or User Group from this screen.
4. Select **Save** to add the user. If an email address is not associated with an existing Quickbase user, the user is invited to create a Quickbase user and set a password. These are the credentials they use to log in to FastField. Quickbase users created this way will not count as a billable user unless they get invited to an app.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> Adding users in FastField does not add them to the Permissions table in Quickbase.

## FastField roles and how to set them

When a Quickbase user is granted access to FastField from within Quickbase, they are assigned a specific role by default: Administrator, Builder, or Collector. To set a user to any other role, go to the My Users page in FastField.

The following table explains FastField roles, their permissions, and how to grant that role to a Quickbase user.

| **Role** | **Permissions** | **How to grant to a Quickbase user** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Builder | - Create forms - Update, download, and delete lists | - In the FastField field, select *All users with permission to create apps can go to FastField from Quickbase*. The user you invite must have permission to create apps and shouldn't be an admin; or - In the FastField field, select *Specific users can go to FastField from Quickbase*. The user you invite must have permissions to create apps and must not be an admin; or - Set the role to **Builder** in the FastField My Users page |
| Collector | - Fill out and submit forms - Access libraries dispatched to them | - In the FastField field, select *Specific users can go to FastField from Quickbase*. The user you invite must not have permissions to create apps and must not be an admin; or - Set the role to **Collector** in the FastField My Users page |
| Analyst | - View and download data on the submissions page - View and build dashboards - View data posted by collectors | - Set the role in the FastField My Users page |
| Dispatcher | - Dispatch forms to people - Manage dispatches | - Set the role in the FastField My Users page |
| Viewer | - View and build dashboards | - Set the role in the FastField My Users page |
| List Editor | - Create and edit lists | - Set the role in the FastField My Users page |
| Librarian | - Access and manage libraries | - Set the role in the FastField My Users page |
| Administrator | - Create and edit users - Manage account settings | - In the FastField field, select *All users with permission to create apps can go to FastField from Quickbase*. The user you invite must be an account or realm admin; or - In the FastField field, select *Specific users can go to FastField from Quickbase,* add a specific user to the Permitted users and groups table, and ensure the user is an account or realm admin; or - Set the role to **Admin** in the FastField My Users page |

## Revoke FastField permissions

Revoking FastField permissions for users who have accessed FastField at least once can only be done in FastField. To do this:

1. Open the FastField Portal.
2. Go to Team > My Users.
3. Use the **Actions** button to delete or disable a user.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> Toggling off a user's access to FastField on the Quickbase Permissions page does not revoke their access to the FastField Portal. As long as they are set as active in the FastField Portal, they'll continue to be able to access FastField.
