# Reference apps for creating formulas

## Formula Functions Reference app

Use the [Formula Functions Reference app](https://www.quickbase.com/db/6ewwzuuj?a=td) to view the formula functions you can use to write a formula. You can also see these functions from a field's properties page. Each record in the app represents a function.

Here's what you can do in this app:

- Filter functions by category, result type, and function name
- View an explanation of the function
- Find examples of how functions are used
- View function details

## Automatic Formula Machine app

Use the Automatic Formula Machine app to quickly generate formulas. Follow the instructions in the app to create formulas, such as:

- Build conditional formulas: use to track prices, discounts, and project status
- Image thumbnail formulas: use in reports and drop-down lists
- Text style formulas: use to format size, color, and appearance of text
- Progress bar formulas: use to track projects and programs

### Build a formula in the Automatic Formula Machine app

1. Open the [Automatic Formula Machine app](https://team.quickbase.com/db/bpjkmt63s).
2. Follow the in-app instructions. Your formula is built.
3. Copy and paste the formula into your own app.
