# Show or hide row numbers on grid reports

By default, grid reports show row numbers representing each row’s position in your current view. This helps you quickly reference a row or see how many records the report contains.

## Default report setting

To hide or show row numbers as a default setting on all grid reports in a table:

1. Select a table in the sidebar.
2. Select **Settings**.
3. Select **Reports & charts**.
4. On the page bar, select **Reporting defaults** > **Default report settings**.
5. Under **Options**, choose your preference for **Row numbers**.

## Single report setting

To hide or show row numbers on a specific report (overriding your default setting):

1. Open a standalone grid report (use the **Reports** dropdown in the page bar of a table’s home page).
2. Select the **Customize report** button in the page bar.
3. Under **Options**, choose your preference for **Row numbers**. **Note:** Selecting **Default** defers to your [default report setting](/v1/docs/show-or-hide-row-numbers-on-grid-reports#default-report-setting) across all reports in the table.
