# Use service accounts to manage pipelines

This article explains how realm admins and account admins can set up service accounts to manage pipelines in a realm.

Individual users create, edit, run, and stop pipelines. For a group of users to manage pipelines, use a service account. Service accounts provide a solution for collaboration in pipelines by assigning individual users to a service account.

If you have already set up a dedicated user account to manage pipelines, consider converting it to a service account. This eliminates password sharing between employees and increases visibility into which users are taking action under the account. Learn more in [Setting up service accounts](/v1/docs/setting-up-service-accounts).

## Best practices for using service accounts with pipelines

- All users building and managing pipelines should use a service account for collaboration and security.
- Limit the number of users assigned to a service account. When a user no longer needs access to the service account, remove them.
- Create multiple service accounts for different use cases, for example managing different sets of pipelines.
