Tables like this can be translated in FastField by using [**subforms**](/fastfield/docs/creating-and-using-subforms). [Embedded content](https://player.vimeo.com/video/525809542) [**Subforms**](/fastfield/docs/using-subforms-video) allow you to capture recurring instances of the same data type. An example of this would be recording an inventory of items with line items. In this scenario, you would create a reusable subform representing a line item input. Let's look at this physical inventory sheet as an example. ![Physical inventory sheet showing a table with columns for item number, description, purchase price, quantity, and location](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_3.30.17_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) ## Turn a table into a subform Not all of this table would be included in the **subform.** Think of the top section as a static section and the item inventory table as a dynamic set of fields. ![Inventory sheet with the static top section highlighted separately from the repeating item inventory table below](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_3.49.04_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) These top four fields would be translated into [numeric](/fastfield/docs/numeric-field), [date/time](/fastfield/docs/date-time-capture), [text](/fastfield/docs/text-field-single-line-text), or [option list](/fastfield/docs/option-list-field) fields and would not be included in the subform but would be included in the main form. Example: ![Legacy Form Builder showing the four main form fields: numeric, date/time, text, and option list](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_4.04.12_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) The part of the table that would be included in the subform would be the Inventory number, item description, purchase price, quantity, and location. ![Inventory sheet with the Inventory number, item description, purchase price, quantity, and location columns highlighted as the fields that will become part of the subform](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_4.11.58_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) Your subform should look similar to the example below: ![Legacy Form Builder showing the completed subform with fields for Inventory number, item description, purchase price, quantity, and location](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_4.31.01_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) ## Add the subform to your main form 1. Log in to the [**Portal**](https://portal.fastfieldforms.com/) using your username and password. > [!NOTE] > Note > > *Only the Admin and Builder roles can edit a form.* 1. Open your form, and add the **Subform** field type. 2. On the right-side panel, select the subform you have created. 3. Select **Allow Multiple Subform Instances**; this will allow you to repeat inputs in the table. 4. From this point, you can configure the subform field as needed. See [Create and use subforms](/fastfield/docs/creating-and-using-subforms) for more details. ![Legacy Form Builder showing the Subform field added to the main form with the Allow Multiple Subform Instances option selected](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_4.30.17_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) In practice, **Allow Multiple Subform Instances** must be turned on to use the form as an item inventory log effectively. Complete the item inventory subform as many times as needed, then select **Submit**. Your instances will be queued as shown until you are finished. ![App screen showing multiple queued subform instances for an item inventory, ready to be submitted](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/Screen_Shot_2021-02-23_at_4.32.02_PM.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T06%3A26%3A04Z&se=2026-10-31T07%3A26%3A04Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wjJvfIibMq8rZrdpgEMTqvdEY%2BATXC7KYWoKUpM0E4k%3D) Select **Submit** when you have finished your subform instances.
