This article covers how to add a Global List field, connect it to a list, and configure its settings. ## How the Global List field works A Global List is a list of choices you upload once to your account and reuse in any form. When you update the list, every form that uses it gets the change. You don't need to edit the forms. A Global List field connects a form to one of these lists. In the FastField mobile app, users select a choice from a dropdown. You can let them select more than one. For example, a work order can ask for the *Jobsite* from your company's list of jobsites. For new lists, we recommend a [Lookup List field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-lookup-list-selector). ## Add a Global List field 1. In the Form Builder, select **Add Fields** in the side bar. 2. Under Lists, select **Global List** to add it after the selected field. In **Field Label**, enter the question users see, for example *Jobsite*. 2. In **Select List**, select the Global List you want to use. You can search the list by name. 3. Changes to the list apply to every form that uses it. To create a list from the Form Builder, select **** in **Select List**. You can also manage Global Lists in the portal. ## Configure the field Use the General, Behavior, and Appearance tabs in Field Settings to control how the field works. | Tab | Setting | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | General | Field Label | The question users see on the form | | General | Field Key | The key that identifies the field in submissions, rules, and calculations | | General | Allow Multiple Selection | Lets users select more than one choice | | General | Select List | The Global List the field uses | | General | Field Filter Key | The key of another field that filters this list. Learn more about [filtering a list by another list](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-filter-a-list-by-another-list) | | General | Required Field | Users must select a choice before they can submit the form | | General | Hint Text | Text shown in the empty field to tell users what to select | | Behavior | Hide Field | Hides the field in the app | | Behavior | Hide Field Label | Shows the field without its label | | Behavior | Exclude From Reports | Leaves the field's value out of reports. The value stays in the submission data | | Behavior | Enabled | When off, the field is grayed out and users can't change it | | Behavior | Memory Field (Persist Value) | Remembers the last submitted value and fills it in the next time the user opens the form. Learn more about [memory fields](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-memory-fields) | | Behavior | Capture GPS Location | Records the GPS coordinates from when the field was last changed | | Behavior | Capture Timestamp | Records the date and time the field was last changed | | Behavior | Field Rules | Shows, hides, or changes other fields based on the selected choice | | Appearance | Background Color | Gives the field a color. Users see them after you select **Publish**. ## Set up the field with the Assistant You can ask the Assistant to add a Global List field. For example, *Add a global list field called Jobsite after Title*. The Assistant can also rename and move the field, allow multiple selections, and make it required. The Assistant can't connect the field to a list.
