This article covers how to add a Rating field, set up its scale, and configure its settings. ## How the Rating field works A Rating field shows a row of numbers, from 1 to the highest rating you choose. Users tap a number to give their rating. You can add a label for each number, so users know what it means. For example, an inspection form can rate a unit's condition from 1 to 5. Here, 1 is *Poor* and 5 is *Excellent*. Every inspector uses the same scale, so you can compare results across sites and over time. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/rating-04-preview-example.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A07Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=%2Fk2jZTxz%2BBY9GC4t7P7J7ia1dx%2BHuj%2Fl8iMRptuMuWo%3D) Common uses include: - **Inspections:** Rate the condition of equipment or parts to spot what needs repair - **Surveys:** Ask customers how satisfied they are with a service - **Evaluations:** Rate skills such as communication or teamwork ## Add a Rating field 1. In the Form Builder, select **Add Fields** in the side bar. 2. Under Numeric, select **Rating** to add it after the selected field. You can also drag it onto the canvas where you want it. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/rating-01-add-field.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A07Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=%2Fk2jZTxz%2BBY9GC4t7P7J7ia1dx%2BHuj%2Fl8iMRptuMuWo%3D) The field appears on the canvas as *Rating Field*, and its field settings open on the General tab. A new Rating field uses a scale of 1 to 7, with N/A turned on. ## Set up the rating scale 1. In **Field Label**, enter the question users see, for example *Overall Condition*. 2. In **Rating Max**, select the highest rating. You can choose up to 10. 3. In each **Label for** box, enter what that rating means, for example *Poor* for 1. 4. Turn on **Show Labels** to show the label next to the field after the user selects a rating. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/rating-03-configured-settings.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A07Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A07Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=%2Fk2jZTxz%2BBY9GC4t7P7J7ia1dx%2BHuj%2Fl8iMRptuMuWo%3D) To let users skip the rating, keep **Allow N/A** turned on. Users then see an *NA* choice before the numbers. To let users select more than one rating, turn on **Allow Multi Select**. ## Configure the field Use the General, Behavior, and Appearance tabs in Field Settings to control how the field works. | Tab | Setting | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | General | Field Label | The question users see on the form | | General | Field Key | The key that identifies the field in submissions, rules, and calculations | | General | Rating Max | The highest rating users can select, from 1 to 10 | | General | Label for | A label for each rating, for example *Poor* or *Excellent* | | General | Allow Multi Select | Lets users select more than one rating | | General | Allow N/A | Adds an *NA* choice before the ratings | | General | Show Labels | Shows the label of the selected rating next to the field | | General | Required Field | Users must select a rating before they can submit the form | | Behavior | Hide Field | Hides the field in the app | | Behavior | Hide Field Label | Shows the ratings without the field label | | Behavior | Exclude From Reports | Leaves the field's value out of reports. Describe what you want, for example *Add a rating field called Customer Satisfaction after Description, from 1 to 5, with labels Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, and Excellent*. 3. Check the field settings after each change, because the Assistant may turn on **Allow N/A** for you. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Assistant changes aren't saved until you select **Save Draft**. ## What's next - [Yes/No/NA field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-yes-no-na-three-state) - [Option List field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-option-list-field) - [Field type overview](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-field-type-overview)
