This article covers how to add a Date/Time field, set it up, and record when other fields change. ## How date and time capture works FastField records dates and times in a few ways: - **Date/Time field:** Users pick a date or a time, or the field fills in the current one for them - **Capture Timestamp:** Any field can record the date and time a user last changed it - **Photo overlay:** Photo fields can stamp the date and time on each photo FastField also records when each submission reaches the server, in your account's time zone. In the Form Builder, select **Add Fields** in the side bar. 2. Under Date/Time, select **Date/Time** to add it after the selected field. A new field captures a date. ## Set up a date field 1. In **Field Label**, enter the question users see, for example *Service Date*. 2. Keep **Format** set to *Date*. 3. In **Format**, select *Time*. 2. To capture both, add 2 fields. ## Record when other fields change To record when a user last changed any field, turn on **Capture Timestamp**. 1. Select the field on the canvas. 2. In Field Settings, select **Behavior**. 3. To stamp the date and time on photos, use the photo overlay settings. Learn more about the [Multi Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-multi-photo-field). ## Configure the field Use the General, Behavior, and Appearance tabs in Field Settings to control how the field works. | Tab | Setting | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | General | Field Label | The question users see on the form | | General | Field Key | The key that identifies the field in submissions, rules, and calculations | | General | Format | Whether the field captures a *Date* or a *Time* | | General | Prior Dates Only | Only allows dates before today. Date format only | | General | Future Dates Only | Only allows dates after today. Date format only | | General | Default To Current Date | Fills in today's date. Date format only | | General | 24 Hour Clock | Shows the time in 24-hour format. Time format only | | General | Default To Current Time | Fills in the current time. Time format only | | General | Required Field | Users must enter a value before they can submit the form | | General | Hint Text | Text that shows in the field until users pick a value | | Behavior | Hide Field | Hides the field in the app | | Behavior | Hide Field Label | Shows the field without its label | | Behavior | Exclude From Reports | Leaves the field's value out of reports. The value stays in the submission data | | Behavior | Enabled | When off, the field is grayed out and users can't change it | | Behavior | Capture GPS Location | Records the GPS coordinates from when the field was last changed | | Behavior | Capture Timestamp | Records the date and time the field was last changed | | Appearance | Background Color | Gives the field a color. Users see them after you select **Publish**. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Submission data stores dates and times in ISO 8601 format, for example *2026-10-15T13:45:00.000Z*. An account admin sets the default time zone and date format in the account settings. ## Set up the field with the Assistant You can also ask the Assistant to add a Date/Time field and set its options. 1. Select **Assistant** in the side bar. 2. Describe what you want, for example *Add a date field called Next Service Date after Description that only allows future dates* or *Add a time field called Arrival Time that defaults to the current time*. 3.
