This article covers the 2 GPS settings for Multi Photo fields and when to use each one. ## How GPS tagging works A Multi Photo field has 2 GPS settings. You can turn on one or both. | Setting | Where to find it | What it records | | --- | --- | --- | | Allow GPS Tagging | General tab | The GPS coordinates of where each photo was taken, saved in the photo file's EXIF data | | Capture GPS Location | Behavior tab | The GPS coordinates from when the user last changed the field, saved with the submission | With **Allow GPS Tagging**, the coordinates travel with each photo file. A photo from the library keeps the coordinates of where it was taken, not where the user uploaded it. With **Capture GPS Location**, the app records the location each time the field changes, such as when a user adds a photo. The location shows in the submission data and on the HTML report. It doesn't replace the GPS tag inside the photo. ## Tag each photo with its location 1. In the Form Builder, select the Multi Photo field on the canvas. To add one, learn more about the [Multi Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-multi-photo-field). 2. On the General tab of Field Settings, turn on **Allow GPS Tagging**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/gps-01-allow-gps-tagging.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A47%3A14Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A47%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=T9ujeMu6aH8OFjvbp%2B7%2FlS77KfUhVkpG6kEdiwjhl%2Bg%3D) The app saves the coordinates in each photo the user takes. ## Record the location when the field changes 1. In Field Settings, select **Behavior**. 2. Turn on **Capture GPS Location**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/gps-02-capture-gps-location.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A47%3A14Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A47%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=T9ujeMu6aH8OFjvbp%2B7%2FlS77KfUhVkpG6kEdiwjhl%2Bg%3D) > [!NOTE] > Tip > > Turn on **Capture Timestamp** on the same tab to also record when the field last changed. Select **Save Draft** to save your changes. Users see them after you select **Publish**. > [!NOTE] > Note > > The device must allow FastField to use its location. If location access is off, the app can't record coordinates. ## Turn on GPS with the Assistant You can also ask the Assistant to add a Multi Photo field that records GPS coordinates. 1. Select **Assistant** in the side bar. 2. Describe what you want, for example *Add a multi photo field called Damage Photos after Description that captures the GPS location*. 3. Send the message. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/gps-03-assistant.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A47%3A14Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A47%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=T9ujeMu6aH8OFjvbp%2B7%2FlS77KfUhVkpG6kEdiwjhl%2Bg%3D) The Assistant may turn on **Allow GPS Tagging**, **Capture GPS Location**, or both. Check both settings in Field Settings afterward, and turn on the one you need. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Assistant changes aren't saved until you select **Save Draft**. ## What's next - [Multi Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-multi-photo-field) - [Location field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-location-field) - [Single Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-single-photo-field)
