This article covers how to add a Multi Photo field and configure its settings. ## How the Multi Photo field works A Multi Photo field shows a button that opens the camera or the photo library. Users add as many photos as the job needs, such as several angles of damage. Each photo is saved with the submission. For example, a work order can ask technicians for photos of the site before and after a repair. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/mphoto-03-preview-example.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A46%3A41Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A46%3A41Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=MJXR4QKqE4B%2FH0XUxov2LuqY5Z5miMNdB%2FOuPnlLhNU%3D) To capture only one photo, use the [Single Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-single-photo-field) instead. ## Add a Multi Photo field 1. In the Form Builder, select **Add Fields** in the side bar. 2. Under Multimedia, select **Multi Photo** to add it after the selected field. You can also drag it onto the canvas where you want it. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/mphoto-01-add-field.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A46%3A41Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A46%3A41Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=MJXR4QKqE4B%2FH0XUxov2LuqY5Z5miMNdB%2FOuPnlLhNU%3D) The field appears on the canvas as *Multi Photo Field*, and its field settings open on the General tab. ## Choose how users add photos 1. In **Field Label**, enter the name users see, for example *Site Photos*. 2. Turn on **Allow Camera**, **Allow Photo Library**, or both. A new field allows only the camera. 3. In **Quality**, select the photo quality. Higher quality makes larger files. 4. To let users draw on their photos, turn on **Allow Annotation**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/mphoto-02-settings.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A46%3A41Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A46%3A41Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=MJXR4QKqE4B%2FH0XUxov2LuqY5Z5miMNdB%2FOuPnlLhNU%3D) To record where each photo was taken, turn on **Allow GPS Tagging**. Learn more about [GPS tagging with the Multi Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-gps-tagging-with-multi-photo-capture-field). > [!WARNING] > Important > > Field Settings shows a limit of 500 photos per submission. Large submissions take longer to upload, especially on a weak connection, and can cause workflows, reports, and downloads to fail. Ask users to keep the app open until all photos finish uploading. ## Add a caption or timestamp to photos You can place text on top of each photo, such as an asset number, along with the date and time. 1. Add a Text field for the caption, and note its field key, for example *alpha_1*. 2. In the Multi Photo field settings, enter that key in **Photo Overlay Field Key**. 3. To add the date and time, turn on **Photo Overlay Date/Time Stamp**. Users must enter the caption before they take the photo. The overlay works only on photos taken with the camera in the app, not photos from the library. To give downloaded photos a clear name, enter a name in **Image Name**. You can include field keys wrapped in $, for example *$repairType$ photo*. ## Configure the field Use the General, Behavior, and Appearance tabs in Field Settings to control how the field works. | Tab | Setting | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | General | Field Label | The name users see on the form | | General | Field Key | The key that identifies the field in submissions, rules, and calculations | | General | Allow Camera | Lets users take photos with the device camera | | General | Allow Photo Library | Lets users upload photos from the device's photo library | | General | Quality | The photo quality: *Jpg Normal*, *Jpg Medium*, *Jpg High*, or *PNG* | | General | Allow GPS Tagging | Saves the GPS coordinates of where each photo was taken in the photo file | | General | Allow Annotation | Lets users draw on their photos | | General | Photo Overlay Field Key | Places the value of another field on top of each photo | | General | Photo Overlay Date/Time Stamp | Places the date and time the photo was taken on top of each photo | | General | Image Name | The name photos get in downloads and workflow deliveries | | General | Required Field | Users must add at least 1 photo before they can submit the form | | Behavior | Hide Field | Hides the field in the app | | Behavior | Hide Field Label | Shows the field without its label | | Behavior | Exclude From Reports | Leaves the photos out of reports. The photos stay in the submission data | | Behavior | Enabled | When off, the field is grayed out and users can't change it | | Behavior | Capture GPS Location | Records the GPS coordinates from when the field was last changed | | Behavior | Capture Timestamp | Records the date and time the field was last changed | | Appearance | Background Color | Gives the field a color. Learn more about [alert types](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-alert-type-field-colors) | If your account has AI Photo Insights, the Behavior tab also shows an **AI Photo Insights** button for this field. Select **Save Draft** to save your changes. Users see them after you select **Publish**. ## Set up the field with the Assistant You can also ask the Assistant to add a Multi Photo field and set how users add photos. 1. Select **Assistant** in the side bar. 2. Describe what you want, for example *Add a multi photo field called Site Photos after Description that allows the camera and the photo library*. 3. Send the message. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/mphoto-05-assistant.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T23%3A46%3A41Z&se=2026-10-30T00%3A46%3A41Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=MJXR4QKqE4B%2FH0XUxov2LuqY5Z5miMNdB%2FOuPnlLhNU%3D) The Assistant can turn the camera, photo library, annotation, and GPS settings on or off, and make the field required. It may also change the photo quality and turn on annotation, so check the field settings afterward. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Assistant changes aren't saved until you select **Save Draft**. ## What's next - [GPS tagging with the Multi Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-gps-tagging-with-multi-photo-capture-field) - [Single Photo field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-single-photo-field) - [Field type overview](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-field-type-overview)
