This article covers how to add a Numeric field, set its number rules, and configure its settings. ## How the Numeric field works A Numeric field accepts digits only. Users can enter positive and negative numbers, and decimals if you allow them. Letters aren't accepted. For example, a work order can ask how many hours a technician worked. In the Form Builder, select **Add Fields** in the side bar. 2. Under Numeric, select **Numeric** to add it after the selected field. In **Field Label**, enter the question users see, for example *Hours Worked*. 2. In **Decimal Positions**, enter how many decimal places users can enter. Enter *0* for whole numbers only. 3. To limit the answer to a range, turn on **Enable Min/Max Values**. Then enter a **Min Value** and a **Max Value**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/numeric-03-type-settings.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A32%3A40Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A32%3A40Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=inAfOatFHZBVPq%2B4sc8wC8oXNFo5E5h9g9CkYsusAc0%3D) You can also set these options under Numeric Settings: - Input Type: Select *Keyboard* to let users type the number, or *Counter* to show plus and minus buttons - Prefix and Suffix: Add text before or after the number, for example *$* or *kg* - Default Value: Fills in a number each time a user starts the form ## Configure the field Use the General, Behavior, and Appearance tabs in Field Settings to control how the field works. | Tab | Setting | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | General | Field Label | The question users see on the form | | General | Field Key | The key that identifies the field in submissions, rules, and calculations | | General | Input Type | Lets users type the number (Keyboard) or change it with buttons (Counter) | | General | Decimal Positions | How many decimal places users can enter | | General | Prefix | Text that shows before the number, for example *$* | | General | Suffix | Text that shows after the number, for example *kg* | | General | Default Value | Fills in a number each time a user starts the form | | General | Enable Min/Max Values | Users must enter a number between the Min Value and Max Value you set | | General | Required Field | Users must enter a number before they can submit the form | | General | Hint Text | Text that shows in the field until the user enters a number | | Behavior | Hide Field | Hides the field in the app | | Behavior | Hide Field Label | Shows the field without the field label | | Behavior | Exclude From Reports | Leaves the field's value out of reports. The value stays in the submission data | | Behavior | Enabled | When off, the field is grayed out and users can't change it | | Behavior | Memory Field (Persist Value) | Remembers the last submitted value and fills it in the next time the user opens the form | | Behavior | Capture GPS Location | Records the GPS coordinates from when the field was last changed | | Behavior | Capture Timestamp | Records the date and time the field was last changed | | Behavior | Secure (Mask Value) | Hides the number in the app while the user enters it | | Appearance | Prefix / Suffix Display | The same prefix and suffix as on the General tab | | Appearance | Background Color | Gives the field a color. Users see them after you select **Publish**. ## Set up the field with the Assistant You can also ask the Assistant to add a Numeric field or change its settings. 1. Select **Assistant** in the side bar. 2. Describe what you want, for example *Add a Numeric field called Hours Worked after Description with 2 decimal places, a minimum of 0, and a maximum of 24*. 3. It can also make the field required. To work on one field, select the Assistant icon on the field.
