This article covers how to add an Option List field, set up its choices, and configure its settings. ## How the Option List field works An Option List field displays every choice at once, in columns. Users select one choice, or several if you allow multiple selections. For example, a work order can ask for a priority of *Low*, *Medium*, *High*, or *Critical*. Every technician picks from the same choices, so your submissions stay consistent across the team. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/option-05-preview-example.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A38Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A38Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JBmckyEq5A5xOEy5u9HA8dMCAw%2F041JnN7gtLcBCKRc%3D) Option List works best for short lists. For a long list of choices, use a [List field](/fastfield/docs/en/form-builder-list-selector) instead, which shows the choices in a dropdown. > [!NOTE] > Note > > You choose between Option List and List when you add the field. Field Settings doesn't let you switch later, but the Assistant can. Learn more in [Set up the field with the Assistant](/fastfield/docs/form-builder-option-list-field#set-up-the-field-with-the-assistant). ## Add an Option List field 1. In the Form Builder, select **Add Field** in the side bar. 2. Under Lists, select **Option List** to add it after the selected field. You can also drag it onto the canvas where you want it. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/option-01-add-field-panel.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A38Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A38Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JBmckyEq5A5xOEy5u9HA8dMCAw%2F041JnN7gtLcBCKRc%3D) The field appears on the canvas as *Option List Field*, and its field settings open on the General tab. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/option-02-new-field-settings.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A38Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A38Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JBmckyEq5A5xOEy5u9HA8dMCAw%2F041JnN7gtLcBCKRc%3D) ## Add choices 1. Repeat for each choice. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/dd260e4e-10bb-4b66-8fb3-5504c272b904/Images/Documentation/option-03-list-options.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-30T01%3A33%3A38Z&se=2026-10-30T02%3A33%3A38Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=JBmckyEq5A5xOEy5u9HA8dMCAw%2F041JnN7gtLcBCKRc%3D) To change the order, drag a choice by its handle.
