# Formatted numeric field (formatted input)

## Overview

The **Formatted Numeric** field is used to capture numeric inputs in a variety of formats:

- Date: ##/##/####
- Date & time: ##/##/#### ##:##
- Phone: (###) ###-####
- Zip code: #####-####

You can also customize any numeric format to meet your needs. Using the Formatted Numeric Field in your form ensures that requested numeric data is inputted correctly and in your desired format.

## How to add a Formatted Numeric Field

1. Select **Formatted Numeric** from the left field menu in the Legacy Form Builder.
2. Under **Format** in the **Formatted Numeric Settings** menu on the right, choose a default format or select **Custom** to create a custom format (see below).

## Custom format

A Formatted Numeric field can be set to collect any set of numbers with or without symbols (e.g., parentheses, dashes) for separation. Examples:

- UK: (##) ####-###### or #### ######
- AUS: (##) ####-####

To create a custom format:

1. Select **Custom** under Format in the Formatted Numeric Settings menu.
2. Type in the pattern for your desired format using the # symbol.
  - Add other symbols (e.g., parenthesis, dashes) and letters for separation or designation.
