Image Resizer/Rotator is a Quickbase Extension that resizes and rotates images stored in your Quickbase file attachment fields—or in Amazon S3—so photos uploaded from computers and phones end up a consistent size, file size, and orientation.
What it can do
Resize to exact dimensions—set a width and/or height in pixels. If you give only one, the other is calculated to keep the image's proportions.
Resize by a percentage—shrink or enlarge each dimension by a percentage.
Resize to a target file size—for example, make each image 250 KB or smaller.
Reduce file size by a percentage—for example, make each image about half its current file size.
Rotate images by 90, 180, or 270 degrees clockwise.
Process several images on one record at once, or images across many related records with a query.
Save the result back to the same field or to a different file attachment field, and record a checkbox, a date/time, and the before and after file size.
Process images stored in Amazon S3.
Run from a button on a Quickbase form, automatically in the background (batch), or from Quickbase Pipelines and other API clients.
Ways to run it
Method | How it starts | Best for |
|---|---|---|
Button | A user clicks a formula button on a record. A small Image Resizer or Image Rotator window opens and shows the result. | On-demand processing of one record, or up to 50 related records. See Resize images and Rotate images. |
Batch | A Quickbase email notification sends the processing arguments to the batch processor, which runs in the background. | Automatic processing (for example, when an image is uploaded) and jobs over 50 records. See Batch processing. |
API | Quickbase Pipelines or another client sends a request to the resize or rotate endpoint. | Workflows and integrations with no user present. See API and Pipelines. |
All three methods use the same parameters, described in Formula URL parameters.
Supported file types
JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jfif), PNG (.png), BMP (.bmp), GIF (.gif), TIFF (.tiff), PBM (.pbm), TGA (.tga), WebP (.webp), and QOI (.qoi). Files with any other extension are skipped with the message Invalid File Extension - <ext> is not supported.
Note
For now, TIFF images must use the .tiff extension. Files ending in .tif aren't accepted and show Invalid File Extension - tif is not supported. Rename the file to end in .tiff and upload it again.
Images are turned to their correct orientation first (using the photo's orientation data), so results match how the image looks when viewed.
Animated GIFs and multi-page TIFFs are reduced to their first frame or page.

Get started
Authorize Image Resizer/Rotator for your app with the installation wizard—see Installation wizard overview. For Image Resizer/Rotator the wizard only authorizes your app; it doesn't add fields or buttons. See Finish and next steps.
Get your Client ID and server URL. Every button formula needs your Client ID (Q followed by a number, for example Q1234) and your designated Image Resizer/Rotator server URL. [PLACEHOLDER: where to get your Client ID and server URL — revisit after the wizard setup for Image Resizer/Rotator ships]
Add a button that resizes or rotates images: Resize images or Rotate images.
Optionally, track results with extra fields—see Track and store results.
Fix problems. If a button shows an error, or something doesn't work as expected, see Image Resizer/Rotator messages and troubleshooting.
