Amazon S3 Basic
Upload single files
Amazon S3 Basic allows you to upload one file at a time to Amazon S3 and connect that file back to the Quickbase record where you selected the upload button. We also provide a way to view and delete files that were previously uploaded to Amazon S3 from within your Quickbase application records.
Amazon S3 Basic with File Attachment Sweep
We offer an additional option for those clients that want to use the File Attachment fields in Quickbase to allow their clients to upload files, but they want the files "swept" once a day into Amazon S3.
Why would you want to use the sweep option?
Like all of our extensions, the buttons used to execute our tools only work when editing or viewing a record in Quickbase. We typically hide those buttons from add-record mode on each form where they appear when we set up your applications. The reason for this is that we need the Record ID# field on the record to have a valid value to connect the associated files in Amazon S3. The Record ID# does not have a valid value until you save your record in Quickbase. So when adding a record in Quickbase, your users have to save the record first, then upload the file they want when using our Amazon S3 Basic extension.
Some clients do not want their users to have to save the Quickbase record first and then upload the file, so we came up with a solution to allow them to use the file attachment field for the day, and on a scheduled basis, we move the file out of the file attachment fields and into Amazon S3. So their users don't experience anything differently when adding records to Quickbase and uploading files for them.
Some clients don't mind the save and upload process, so they stick with the Amazon S3 Basic option by itself.
