Several Quickbase Extensions—such as Document Portal—can store files in your own cloud storage account instead of in Quickbase file attachment fields. This keeps large or numerous files out of your Quickbase application's storage, while the extension keeps them linked to your Quickbase records.
Your files are stored in your cloud account. We only keep the connection details needed to reach it, and those are stored encrypted.
Supported cloud providers
Provider | What you need | How the connection is made | Setup guide |
|---|---|---|---|
Amazon S3 | An AWS account, an S3 bucket, and an access key for an IAM user that can use that bucket | You enter the access key, secret key, region, and bucket in the installation wizard | |
Dropbox | A Dropbox account and a folder to store files in | You sign in to Dropbox from the installation wizard to authorize access (refresh token) | |
Egnyte | An Egnyte account, your Egnyte domain, and a folder to store files in | You sign in to Egnyte from the installation wizard to authorize access (refresh token) |
Some extensions can also store files directly in Quickbase (in a file attachment field). That option needs no cloud setup. Each extension's own articles list which storage options it supports.
How the connection works
Prepare your cloud account. Create the account, and the bucket or folder you want files stored in, following the setup guide for your provider.
Run the installation wizard. When you set up an extension and choose a cloud provider, the wizard adds an account setup step for that provider just before Finish: Amazon S3 Account Setup, Dropbox Account Setup, or Egnyte Account Setup. The first time, it asks for your connection details and verifies them before you can continue.
Reuse for later setups. Your connection details are saved to your account. The next time you set up an extension with the same provider, the wizard uses the saved details and only offers an optional Override Bucket (Amazon S3) or Override Folder (Dropbox, Egnyte) so a particular setup can use a different location. Leave it blank to use your default.
Manage saved credentials
After setup, a Client Admin can update saved Amazon S3 access keys in the Extensions Portal under Client Credentials in the left menu—see Update your access key after setup.
To change anything else that is saved to your account—your default Amazon S3 bucket or region, or your Dropbox or Egnyte connection—submit a technical support case.
