# Email Message Subtables

## About email message subtables

*Available to: all roles, when your company has the QB Courier extension.*

An email message subtable is a saved table of related records, for example the line items of an order, that you can add to any Courier email. Each subtable has a reference, such as `~strid=12~`. When Courier sends an email, it replaces the reference with a table of the emailed record's related records.

- Subtables belong to your company, not to one configuration, so you can use the same subtable in many configurations.
- Courier reads the subtable's settings each time it sends. If you edit a subtable, every configuration that uses it gets the change.

## Email Subtable list

To open it, select **Email Message SubTables** on the QB Courier extension's page, or the **Email Message Subtables** button at the top of the Courier Configurations list.

| Column | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Subtable Name** | The name you gave the subtable. |
| **Subtable Reference** | The reference to put in an email message, for example `~strid=12~`. |
| **Notes** | Your notes about the subtable. |

## Create or edit a subtable

1. Select **Create Email Subtable**, or the pencil icon on a subtable's row to edit it. Your company needs at least one Courier configuration before you can create a subtable.
2. The **Create Email Subtable** (or **Edit Email Subtable - *name***) window opens the Courier Subtable Configurator. Set up the table there. See [Courier Subtable Configurator overview](/quickbase-extensions/docs/courier-subtable-configurator-overview).
3. Close the window with the **×**.
4. To see your changes in the list, select **Courier Configurations** and then **Email Message Subtables** again.

## Add a subtable to an email

On a configuration's [Email Message tab](/quickbase-extensions/docs/courier-configurator-email-message-tab#add-tables), drag the subtable from the **Sub Table** panel into the **Message**. Fields that the subtable uses from the emailed record must exist in the table of each configuration you use it in.
