Courier limits

Prev Next

Each Courier configuration has sending limits. They help keep your emails from being flagged as spam. This page lists the limits, explains how Courier applies them, and what happens when a configuration goes over one.

Default limits

Limit

Default

What it limits

Maximum # of Attachments for each email sent

5

The number of files Courier attaches to each email from file attachment fields and Amazon S3.

# of emails that can be sent in a single run

300

The number of records a configuration can email each time it runs.

# of emails that can sent each day

750

The number of emails the configuration can send in a day.

# of emails that can be sent each month

3,500

The number of emails the configuration can send in a month.

Limits apply to each configuration separately. To see the limits for a configuration, open it in the Courier configurator and select View Limits.

If you need higher limits, submit a technical support case.

How Courier applies the limits

  • Per run—after Courier gets the records to email, it compares the number of records with the per-run limit. If there are more records than the limit, Courier doesn't send any emails in that run. It doesn't send the first 300 and skip the rest. To stay under the limit, narrow the report or query the configuration uses, or run it more often.

  • Daily and monthly—before each run, Courier checks how many emails the configuration has already sent today and this month. If it has already sent more than the daily or monthly limit, the configuration doesn't run until the next day or month. A run that starts under the limit isn't stopped partway, so the last run of the day or month can take the total over the limit.

  • Attachments—Courier checks the attachment limit in two ways. Before the run, if the configuration has more attachment fields set up than the limit, the configuration doesn't run. While sending, if a record has more files than the limit, Courier doesn't send that record's email. Generic attachments stored with the configuration aren't counted. See Include attachments with Courier.

Limits apply in every processing mode—Scheduled, On Demand, and Triggered.
