# Map legend

This feature enables users to display a legend box on the map that gives a brief description of the different markers that are displayed on the map. By creating and passing the field ID of the **Legend Properties** field from your Quickbase app, users can display it on the screen. A checkbox is also displayed at the bottom of the location list that allows users to toggle the visibility of the legend. You can also include the *hidelegend* parameter to default the **Show Legend** checkbox to unchecked and keep the legend hidden when the map opens. Set the value to *true* to hide it.

Format for the **Legend Properties** formula text field:

<Marker Type 1>|<Label 1>

\n<Marker Type 2>|<Label 2>

...

For example:

"D-Blue|Duplex" & "\nC-Yellow|Condominium" &"\nS-Green|Suffolk Rentals" &"\nA-Blue|Airport" &"\nR-Purple|Residential"

*The \n should be included for each pin after the first. This separates each line in the legend.*

## Required parameters

You need to pass a few parameters to show the legend on the map. The parameters needed for this are *dbid*, *legrecid*, and *legendfid*.

The *dbid* is the ID of the table that stores the legend field.

The *legrecid* is the record ID# of the record in that table that has the legend you want to use.

The *legendfid* is the field ID of the field that stores the legend in that table.
