Finish

When you select Finish on the Application Token step, the wizard installs PDF Merger and shows the Finish step: a confirmation page that lists the fields it added.

Note

PDF Merger doesn't run until you create an email notification on the destination table. The wizard doesn't create it for you. See PDF Merger email notification setup.

The confirmation page

The Finish step shows, from top to bottom:

  1. In bold: Congratulations, you have successfully installed PDF Merger in your Quickbase Application! followed by a link to the PDF Merger documentation.

  2. Click here to view the steps to create an Email Notification to trigger PDF Merger to run: followed by an Email Notification Steps link. Those steps are now in PDF Merger email notification setup.

  3. The following changes were made to your application: followed by Selected Table (a link to your destination table) and Added fields to this table. The changes are listed below.

What the wizard created

The wizard creates no tables. It adds these fields to the destination table you chose in Select the Destination Table:

Field

Type

What it's for

The field you named in Name of File Attachment

File Attachment

Only if you chose Create a Field. PDF Merger saves the merged file here. If you chose an existing field, the wizard uses that one instead.

Merged Date

Date / Time

PDF Merger writes the date and time of the last merge here.

Merger Error Details

Text

PDF Merger writes the details here if a merge fails.

PDF Merger Trigger Field

Text

The trigger field. Execute PDF Merger writes Batch Execution Requested_ and the date and time here. Your email notification fires on that change, and PDF Merger updates the field again when it's done.

PDF Merger Parameters

Formula - Text

The parameters PDF Merger runs with: which files to merge (the files you set up in Configuration Setup, or the query table, query, and file fields from Query Setup), where to save the result, the field IDs of Merged Date, Merger Error Details, and the trigger field, and the merged file name, Merged_File. It also includes type=pdfmerger (US) or type=pdfmergereu (EU), which must match the address in PDF Merger Batch Email. Your email notification sends this field's value to the PDF Merger address. See Formula Text field parameters.

Execute PDF Merger

Formula - URL (button)

The button that starts a merge. It updates the trigger field, and it's hidden while a request is pending. Its help text reads: Clicking this button will kick off the merging process. Be patient, refresh the screen until the process is complete.

PDF Merger Batch Email

Formula - Email

The address your email notification sends to: pdfmerger@pdfmerger.quickbasetools.com, or pdfmergereu@pdfmerger.quickbasetools.com for apps in the EU. It may not be listed on the confirmation page.

The wizard also creates a batch configuration for your app, of type pdfmerger (US) or pdfmergereu (EU), and adds its configid to PDF Merger Parameters. See Batch Config Portal overview.

The wizard doesn't create the email notification.

Next steps

  1. PDF Merger email notification setup: create the email notification that sends PDF Merger Parameters to the PDF Merger Batch Email address when the trigger field changes.

  2. Formula Text field parameters: change which files are merged, merge more than five files, or rename the merged file.

  3. PDF Merger features and functionality: what else PDF Merger can do.
