This article describes the signing window your users see and what's saved when they sign. ## The signing window When a user selects a **Sign Off** button, a window titled **QB Signature** opens. From top to bottom it shows: 1. **Heading**—*Please sign below and save*, or your own text (see **titledlg** and **titlefid** in [QB Signatures formula URL parameters](https://help.quickbase.com/quickbase-extensions/docs/en/signatures-formula-url-parameters)). 2. **Signature pad**—a white box with a gray border. The signer draws with a mouse, finger, or stylus. Below the pad on the right is a status line, which is blank to start with. If the signer selects **Save** with an empty pad or a mark too short to count as a signature, it reads *Please sign here.* Next to it, a circular-arrows icon clears the pad so the signer can start over. 3. **Signer fields** (optional)—up to two text boxes, each labeled with the name of the Quickbase field it fills (for example, *Full Name* and *Title*). Required fields have a red ***. 4. **Terms** (optional)—a red ***, a checkbox, and the link *Click here to view terms.*, which opens your terms document in a new tab. The signer must check the box to save. 5. **Record fields** (optional)—other fields from the record, two per row, filled in with their current values. Signers can review and change them. Text, multiple-choice (shown as drop-down lists), checkbox, and date fields can be shown. 6. **Drop-down list** (optional)—a list of records from another table, such as a crew or location, starting with *--select--*. 7. **Save**—saves the signature. It reads **Submit** when the button is set to close automatically after saving. A small version number appears at the bottom of the window. ### Signature pad sizes Choose a pad size to suit your users' devices: | **Size** | **Pad width × height (pixels)** | | --- | --- | | Small (*S*, the default) | 450 × 200 | | Medium (*M*) | 550 × 300 | | Large (*L*) | 650 × 400 | | Extra large (*XL*) | 750 × 500 | | Custom | Any height and width you set | ## Two ways to capture a signature - **Signature only**—the window shows just the heading, the pad, and **Save**. The signature is stored in a file attachment field. - **Signature with details**—the signer must also enter details such as their name and title, and check a box to confirm they've read your terms. You store the terms document in a separate file attachment field, and the signer sees it as a link before signing off. ## Saving a signature When the signer selects **Save**: - If the pad is empty or the signature is too short, *Please sign here.* appears below the pad and nothing is saved. - If a required signer field is empty or the terms checkbox isn't checked, the window shows *Please provide the required information and then click save.* (or *…then click submit.* when the button reads **Submit**) and nothing is saved. - Otherwise, the signature is saved as a GIF image with a transparent background in the signature file attachment field, so it sits cleanly on top of document backgrounds. The sign-off date and time, the signer's entries, and any changed record fields are saved to the record at the same time. - The window then shows *Your signature has been saved successfully to Quickbase.* and a **Close** button. **Close** closes the window (or returns to the record if the window can't close). If the button was set up to close automatically, this happens without the signer selecting **Close**. QB Signatures saves with the user token chosen during setup, not as the signer. Signers don't need permission to edit the record, and the record's **Last Modified By** shows the token's user. To record who signed, see [Who shows as the signer?](https://help.quickbase.com/quickbase-extensions/docs/en/qb-signatures-messages#faq-who-signed) ## On a phone or tablet The installation wizard adds a **Sign Off (Mobile)** button for phones and tablets. It opens the signing window in a new browser window instead of a pop-up. The wizard creates it so it sends a temporary token, so it also works when your account uses Quickbase enhanced security. On any phone or tablet, after the signature is saved the window shows *Your signature has been saved successfully to Quickbase.* and *You will be redirected in 5 seconds.*, then returns to the record (or to the address in **rdr**). This depends on the device, not the button: **Sign Off** does the same on a phone, and **Sign Off (Mobile)** doesn't redirect on its own on a computer. ## Messages Every message QB Signatures shows, with its cause and what to do, is in [QB Signatures messages and troubleshooting](https://help.quickbase.com/quickbase-extensions/docs/en/qb-signatures-messages).
