Publish Web Forms and Generate QR Codes

Prev Next

A web form lets people fill out your form in a browser, without a FastField login. This article covers how to set up a web form, share its link and QR code, and choose its options.

How web forms work

When you turn on public submissions for a form, FastField creates a public link and a QR code for it. Anyone with the link can open the form in a browser and submit it. Their submissions come back to FastField like any other submission.

Web forms work well for public surveys, feedback, and requests from customers or contractors who aren't users in your account.

Note

Web forms are part of the External Forms add-on. An account admin turns it on from the billing page in the portal. Submissions from web forms can carry an extra cost. Learn more about add-on features.

Turn on web forms for a form

  1. In the Form Builder, select Settings in the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas.

  2. Select Enable Webforms.

  1. In Web Forms Settings, turn on Allow public submissions.

Web Forms Settings with the Allow public submissions toggle

  1. Set the options you need. Learn more in Set web form options.

  2. Select Save Draft or Publish to save the web form settings.

Tip

Publish your form before you share it, so people outside your team see the finished version.

Set web form options

After you turn on public submissions, more options appear.

Web Forms Settings with the options for in-progress submissions, navigation, and expiration

Setting

What it does

Allow saving In Progress public submissions

Time in seconds to auto navigate on completion

How long to wait after someone submits before opening another web page. Leave it at 0 to stay on the form

Navigation target on completion

Note

Saved in-progress submissions are stored in the browser. They're lost if the person clears their browser data or blocks cookies.

The public link and QR code appear in Web Forms Settings after you turn on public submissions.

The Anonymous (Public) URL with its Copy button, and the Anonymous (Public) QR Code

  • Share the link: Next to Anonymous (Public) URL, select Copy. Then paste the link into an email, a text message, or a web page

  • Share the QR code: Save or print the image under Anonymous (Public) QR Code. People scan it with their phone camera to open the web form

Note

If the form hasn't been saved yet, the link and QR code don't exist. Select Save Draft first.

To put the form on your own website instead, learn how to embed your form.

Share a form right after you publish it

The first time you publish a form, the Form Builder shows the ways people can fill it out.

The Your form is published dialog with Fill it out in the app, Web app, Share a link, and Embed on site

Option

Who it's for

Fill it out in the app

Your team. Scan the QR code with your phone to open the form in the FastField mobile app

Web app

Your team, in a browser. Select Use it now to open the form in the web app

Share a link

People outside your team. Needs the External Forms add-on

Embed on site

Important

The QR code under Fill it out in the app opens the form in the FastField mobile app for your users. To share a form with the public, use the web form QR code in Web Forms Settings.

To get the public link from this dialog:

  1. Under Share a link, select Set it up.

  2. If the External Forms add-on is off, an account admin can select Turn it on. Other users see a message to ask an admin.

  3. Select Enable Webforms for this form to agree to the web form terms.

  4. Select Copy to copy the link.

The Share a link view with the public link and the Copy button

If web forms are already on for the form, the button shows Get the link instead of Set it up.

Note

The Assistant can't change web form settings. Use Web Forms Settings or the publish dialog instead.
