The Static Text field shows text on the form that users read but don't fill in. This article covers how to add a Static Text field and configure its settings.
How the Static Text field works
A Static Text field displays a label and a block of text. Unlike the Text and Long Text fields, it has no box for users to type in. Use it for instructions, safety reminders, or notes about the fields that follow.
For example, a work order can remind technicians to wear protective gear before they start.

Add a Static Text field
In the Form Builder, select Add Fields in the side bar.
Under Text, select Static Text to add it after the selected field. You can also drag it onto the canvas where you want it.

The field appears on the canvas as Static Text Field, and its field settings open on the General tab.
Write the text
In Field Label, enter a short heading, for example Safety Reminder.
In Value, enter the text users see.

Tip
To show only the text, turn on Hide Field Label on the Behavior tab.
Configure the field
Use the General, Behavior, and Appearance tabs in Field Settings to control how the field works.
Tab | Setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
General | Field Label | The heading users see on the form |
General | Field Key | The key that identifies the field in submissions, rules, and calculations |
General | Value | The text users see on the form |
Behavior | Hide Field | Hides the field in the app |
Behavior | Hide Field Label | Shows the text without the field label |
Behavior | Exclude From Reports | Leaves the text out of reports. The text stays in the submission data |
Behavior | Enabled | When off, the text is grayed out in the app |
Appearance | Background Color | Gives the field a color, for example yellow for a warning. Learn more about alert types |
Select Save Draft to save your changes. Users see them after you select Publish.
Add the field with the Assistant
You can ask the Assistant to add a Static Text field, for example Add a Static Text field called Safety Reminder after Description. The Assistant adds the field and its label, but it doesn't fill in the text yet. Enter the text in Value yourself.
Note
Assistant changes aren't saved until you select Save Draft.
