Authorization

Prev Next

Authorization is the first step of the wizard when you open it with Setup, Launch Setup Wizard, or Authorize New App in the Extensions Portal. Here you choose the Quickbase user token that the extension uses to read and change your app. Setup Table skips this step and uses the token already on file for the app; see the installation wizard overview.

The wizard signs in with a Quickbase user token only. To create or manage one, see User tokens in the Quickbase help.

What the user token needs

  • Your company's realm. The token must belong to a user in the Quickbase realm on your Extensions account. The wizard checks the token on <realm>.quickbase.com, and then on <realm>.quickbase.eu.

  • Access to the app. The token must be able to reach the app you want to set up. Only apps the token can access appear on the next step, Application information.

  • Permission to create tables and fields. Most extensions add tables or fields to your app, so the token's user needs permission to create tables and fields in it. The wizard checks this on Application information, after you choose the app.

The extension keeps using this token after setup, so choose a token for a user who will keep access to the app. If the token is later deleted or regenerated, a Client Admin can replace it in Client Credentials.

The Authorization step

The step shows these controls, from top to bottom:

  1. Select an Authorization Method. A drop-down list with two choices:

    • Use Existing User Token (selected by default) shows the grid of saved tokens.

    • Enter a New User Token shows a text box for a new token.

If your company has no saved tokens yet, the list and the grid don't appear, and you see only the text box.

  2. The token grid (with Use Existing User Token). Each row is a user token that your company has already used to authorize an app, for any extension. The columns are:

    What it shows

    Select

A radio button. Select it, or anywhere on the row, to choose that token.

    Email Address

The email address of the Quickbase user the token belongs to.

Last 6 characters of User Token

The end of the token, so you can tell tokens apart. Saved tokens are stored encrypted and are never shown in full.

  3. Enter your User Token (with Enter a New User Token). Paste the whole user token from Quickbase. A user token is at least 34 characters long. If what you enter is shorter, the box gets a red outline, the wizard shows Usertokens are at least 34 Characters in length., and Next stays unavailable. The wizard reads the user's email address from the token.

Select Next. The wizard signs in to Quickbase with the token, then shows Application information with the apps that the token can access. Nothing is saved on this step: a new token is saved, encrypted, with your Extensions account when you finish the wizard.

Messages

If the wizard can't use the token, it stays on this step and shows one of these messages in a red banner:
