Date/Time Field

Prev Next

The Date/Time field lets users pick a date or a time, so you know exactly when work happened. This article covers how to add a Date/Time field, set it up, and record when other fields change.

How date and time capture works

FastField records dates and times in a few ways:

  • Date/Time field: Users pick a date or a time, or the field fills in the current one for them

  • Capture Timestamp: Any field can record the date and time a user last changed it

  • Photo overlay: Photo fields can stamp the date and time on each photo

FastField also records when each submission reaches the server, in your account's time zone.

For example, a work order can fill in the service date and the technician's arrival time.

Add a Date/Time field

  1. In the Form Builder, select Add Fields in the side bar.

  2. Under Date/Time, select Date/Time to add it after the selected field. You can also drag it onto the canvas where you want it.

The field appears on the canvas as Date/Time Field, and its field settings open on the General tab. A new field captures a date.

Set up a date field

  1. In Field Label, enter the question users see, for example Service Date.

  2. Keep Format set to Date.

  3. To fill in today's date when users open the form, turn on Default To Current Date.

To limit which dates users can pick, turn on Prior Dates Only or Future Dates Only.

Set up a time field

  1. In Format, select Time.

  2. To fill in the current time when users open the form, turn on Default To Current Time.

To show the time in 24-hour format, turn on 24 Hour Clock.

Note

A Date/Time field captures either a date or a time. To capture both, add 2 fields.

Record when other fields change

To record when a user last changed any field, turn on Capture Timestamp.

  1. Select the field on the canvas.

  2. In Field Settings, select Behavior.

  3. Turn on Capture Timestamp.

The date and time are saved with the submission. To stamp the date and time on photos, use the photo overlay settings. Learn more about the Multi Photo field.

Set up the field with the Assistant

You can also ask the Assistant to add a Date/Time field and set its options.

  1. Select Assistant in the side bar.

  2. Describe what you want, for example Add a date field called Next Service Date after Description that only allows future dates or Add a time field called Arrival Time that defaults to the current time.

  3. Send the message.

The Assistant can choose a date or time format, limit the dates, fill in the current date or time, and make the field required.

Note

Assistant changes aren't saved until you select Save Draft.
