Note
Install one or more of our document generation extensions (Exact Forms Plus, XL Docs, or PDF Stamper) in your application before you install Package Builder. Package Builder runs these other extensions, so you need at least one of them to build a package, and the wizard needs the Document Templates table they add. If you want each package merged into one PDF, install PDF Merger as well.
When you set up Package Builder in your application, the wizard page is titled Package Builder Set-up. The steps on the left are Authorization, Application Information, Package Builder Setup (this step), and Finish.
If your application doesn't have a Document Templates table yet, the wizard stops at this step and shows:
This application does not currently have any of our Document Generation add-ons installed. Please install one of our Document Generation add-ons before attempting to install Package Builder.
Install a document generation extension first, then run the Package Builder wizard again.
The Package Builder step
The step has one choice, a message, and a checkbox:
Select Table to Setup (required). A drop-down list of your app's tables; it starts at Select a Table. This is the table that you would like to have Package Builder launch from, and more importantly, where the document generation extensions that you would like to include in your package live. Package Builder is intended to be on the same table as where the parts of the package are being generated. This table is called the master table in the rest of the Package Builder articles.
The message. Below the list, the wizard shows: This Wizard will set up all of the fields/tables needed for Package Builder to work. However, this will not complete the setup. In order to complete the setup of Package Builder, you should read our article on our helpsite on setting up Package Builder: followed by a link to the setup steps. Those steps are now in Set up a package. The wizard does most of the setup for you, but you have to set up the package sequence yourself after the wizard is complete before you can generate a package. If you want packages built in the background, you also create the email notification yourself; see Run a package in the background.
I understand the above message (required). Check this box once you understand that the setup isn't finished when the wizard ends.
Select Finish to install. Select Previous to go back to Application information.
If something is missing, the wizard stays on this step and shows one of these messages:
Message | What to do |
|---|---|
Please select a table you would like to set up with Package Builder. | Choose a table in Select Table to Setup. |
Please check the checkbox to show that you have read our message on the setup details. | Check I understand the above message. |
The usertoken selected does not have permissions to create fields in the <table> table. Package Builder needs permissions to create fields in order to continue the setup. | The wizard adds fields to the table you chose and to the Document Templates table, so it checks both. <table> names the one that failed. The message is about the user token you chose on the wizard's Authorization step: give that token's user permission to create fields in that table, or go back to Authorization and choose a token whose user has it. |
What the wizard sets up
When you select Finish, the wizard adds the Package Builder fields to the table you chose, adds the Add-On, Arguments FID, and Not Required in Package fields to the Document Templates table, and creates the Package Builder Run Details table. The full list is in Package Builder Finish.
Next steps
Set up a package: choose the templates and set the template sequence.
