Report caching

Prev Next

When you save a report, you can cache it. Caching saves a static copy of the report. When you open a cached report, Quickbase serves the static copy, rather than running a fresh query against your data. This makes the report load faster, and reduces the load on your database.

Report caching is useful for large reports, dashboards with several reports, and when you've got many concurrent users accessing the same report.

There are two kinds of caching:

  • Automatic caching – Quickbase caches the report automatically and updates the cache based on a set schedule.

  • Manual caching – You decide when to update the cache.

The cache applies across the entire report. If you have caching set to automatic, Quickbase refreshes the cache for all users simultaneously. If you have manual caching, the report doesn't update until you choose to refresh it.

Turn on caching for a report

  1. Open the report you want to cache.

  2. Select Customize this Report.

  3. On the Display tab, find the Caching section.

  4. Select Enable caching for this report.
    Settings icon

  5. Select Save.

Refresh the report cache

When you enable caching, Quickbase sets the default refresh to every 10 minutes. You can change the schedule or refresh the cache manually.

Change the automatic cache schedule

  1. Open the report and select Customize this Report.

  2. Select the Display tab, then find the Caching section.

  3. Under Automatic Caching, select the schedule dropdown to change the frequency.

  4. Select Save.

Refresh the cache manually

  1. Open the cached report.

  2. Select Refresh to update the report data.
