What a tag is
A tag is a spot on the document where a recipient signs, initials, approves, or fills in information.
Each tag is a record in the JuicedSign Recipient Tags table, linked to a record in Document Templates. When you send an agreement, JuicedSign uses the tags of the template named in Agreement Doc Fids. See Button parameters.
Each tag belongs to one recipient, through its Recipient ID. This is the same number as the first part of the recipient's entry in the Recipient String. See Send an agreement.
You can create tags in the Tags Configurator, by clicking on a sample PDF, or by adding records to JuicedSign Recipient Tags yourself. See Tags Configurator.
A tag is placed in one of two ways:
Anchor text: JuicedSign finds a piece of text in the document and places the tag there. See Place tags with anchor text.
Page and position: a page number and X and Y coordinates. Use this when the document has no fixed text to anchor to.
Some tags and fields were added in later JuicedSign versions. If your setup is older, see Upgrade an older JuicedSign setup.
Tag types
Choose the type in the Type of Tag field.
Type | What the recipient sees and does | Save to your record (QBUpdatefid) | Default from your record (QBDefaultfid) |
|---|---|---|---|
Signature | A Click to Sign button. The recipient picks a signature style or draws a signature. Always required. | No | No |
Signature (Name Editable) | Like Signature, but the recipient can change the name they sign with. See Editable names and initials. | No | No |
Initials | A Click to Initial button. Initials are always a typed style, never drawn. Always required. | No | No |
Initials (Inits Editable) | Like Initials, but the recipient can change their initials. | No | No |
Approve or Decline | An Approve and a Decline button. See Approve or Decline. | No | No |

Date | A date picker. The recipient picks a date; they can't type one. The date is in your app's date format. | Yes | Yes |
Text | A text box. You can set a character limit, allow multiple lines, and check the entry with a pattern. See Check what recipients enter. | Yes | Yes |
Number | A number box. The browser allows only digits, a decimal point, a minus sign, and | Yes | Yes |
An email box. If the address isn't valid, the recipient sees Invalid Email. | Yes | Yes | |
Checkbox | A box to check or clear. See Checkbox size. | Yes: | Yes: checked when the field's value is |
Multiple Choice | A list to pick one option from. Put the options in Value for Multiple Choice, separated by | Yes | Yes |
Full Name, First Name, Last Name | The recipient's name from the Recipient String, shown as text. First Name is the first word, Last Name the last word. The recipient can't change it. | No | No |
Email Address | The recipient's email address from the Recipient String, shown as text. The recipient can't change it. | No | No |
These names appear in older help pages but aren't tag types and do nothing: Agreement ID, Company, Formula, List, Note, Radio Group, Signer Attachment, SSN, Title, View, and Zip. For SSN and ZIP codes, use a Text tag with a validation pattern. The Tags Configurator has presets for both.
Signatures and initials
The recipient adopts a signature once: Select Style (their name in one of five cursive fonts) or Draw. JuicedSign uses it for every signature tag. You can limit the options with
drawandfont. See Choose how recipients sign.JuicedSign makes initials from the recipient's name: the first letter of each word. For a hyphenated name, it keeps the hyphen, for example
M-J.Initials use the same style as the signature. If the recipient drew their signature, initials use the Cedarville Cursive font.
A typed signature or initials are stamped at the tag's Font Size and Font Color TC. A drawn signature is resized to Height of Stamped Sign Image.
Editable names and initials
With a Signature (Name Editable) or Initials (Inits Editable) tag, the signature window shows Verify your name and initials before signing, with Signer's Full Name and Initials boxes the recipient can change.
Names must be 2 to 25 characters, and initials 2 to 10. Only letters, spaces, and
. , - 'are allowed. The new name and initials are stamped on the document and saved on the recipient's JuicedSign Recipients record.
An agreement can't mix editable and non-editable versions. Use either Signature or Signature (Name Editable), and either Initials or Initials (Inits Editable).
Approve or Decline
Use it for a recipient who approves the document instead of signing it. The approval itself stamps nothing on the document, and the approver doesn't appear on the certificate of completion.
Approve: the button shows a check mark, and JuicedSign records an Approved event. The recipient then selects Finish.
Decline: the recipient confirms that the agreement will be voided, then enters a reason, up to 500 characters. The agreement and the recipient become Declined, and the reason is saved.
Each recipient can have only one Approve or Decline tag, and it can't be combined with Signature tags for that recipient. It can't be optional.
To print a mark of the approval on a page, give the same recipient an Initials tag where you want the mark. The recipient then initials and approves, and their initials are stamped on the document. Finish becomes available only after both.
Checkbox size
If you leave Height and Width empty, the checkbox is 10 × 10.
The Font Size must be the same as the height or smaller. Font Size defaults to 16, so set Height and Width to at least the font size, or lower the font size.
Tag fields
The fields of a JuicedSign Recipient Tags record. Don't rename or delete them; JuicedSign finds them by name.
Basics
Field | What it does |
|---|---|
Related Document Template | The template the tag belongs to. Required. |
Recipient ID | The recipient the tag is for. Required. Only Signer recipients get tags. |
Name | A name for your reference. Required. Recipients don't see it. |
Label | A tooltip. Recipients see it when they hover over the tag. |
Type of Tag | See Tag types. |
Required | For tags the recipient fills in: Finish stays unavailable until this tag is filled in. Signature, Initials, and Approve or Decline tags are always required. |
Ignore if Not Present | If the anchor text isn't in the document, or the page doesn't exist, JuicedSign skips the tag instead of stopping. A tag can't be both Required and Ignore if Not Present. |
Tab Order | The order of the tags. Default: 99. |
Button Text | Replaces Click to Sign or Click to Initial on Signature and Initials tags. Use the same text on all of a recipient's signature tags. |
Placement
Positions are in points: 72 points make an inch. X goes right from the left edge, and Y goes down from the top.
Field | What it does |
|---|---|
Anchor String | The text to find. JuicedSign places the tag at every place the text appears, on every page. See Place tags with anchor text. |
X Offset, Y Offset | How far to move the tag from the top-left corner of the anchor text. Positive values move it right and down, negative values left and up. With 0 and 0, the tag covers the anchor text. |
Page Number | Used when Anchor String is empty. |
X Position, Y Position | Used with Page Number: where the tag's top-left corner goes. Zero or more. |
Size and font
Field | What it does |

Data
Field | What it does |
|---|---|
QBUpdatefid | The field ID on your table where JuicedSign saves what the recipient entered, when they finish. See the tag types table for which types are saved. Repeating tags use this field differently; see Place tags with anchor text. |
QBDefaultfid | The field ID on your table whose value fills in the tag when the recipient opens the agreement. The recipient can change it. |
Value for Multiple Choice | The options for a Multiple Choice tag. See Tag types. |
Character Limit | The most characters a Text tag accepts. If empty, 1,000. |
Multiple Lines | Makes a Text tag a multi-line box. |
Check what recipients enter
For Text tags, you can check the entry with a pattern (a regular expression).
Validation Pattern: the pattern. Start it with
^and end it with$, so the whole entry must match, not just part of it.Validation Message: what the recipient sees when the entry doesn't match. If empty: Please Enter a Valid Input.
The check runs when the recipient leaves the box. Test your pattern before you send: an invalid pattern shows no message.
Validation Pattern | Validation Message |
|---|---|
| Please enter a whole number. |
| Please enter a number with up to two decimal places. |
| Please enter the date as MM/YYYY. |
| Please enter Monthly or Annually. |
Drawn signatures
Field | What it does |
|---|---|
Height of Stamped Sign Image | The height of a drawn signature on the document. Default: 82. |
X Offset Sign Img, Y Offset Sign Img | Where a drawn signature goes, worked out from X Offset and Y Offset. Don't change these formulas. |
X Offset Sign Img-OR, Y Offset Sign Img-OR | Fill these in to override the position of a drawn signature. |
Fields with no effect
These fields are in the table but don't change anything today: Anchor Units, Bold, Italic, Underline, Font Color (use Font Color TC), Background Color TC, IsFormField, Form Field ID, Conditional Tag Label, Conditional Value, Conceal Value on Document, Default Static Value, DateFormat, Date Past Limit, and Date Future Limit.
